What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is an approach to health that focuses on diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating conditions that arise from the joints, muscles, ligaments and nerves of the body.
Chiropractic literally translates as "done by hand" and we mostly use hands-on techniques to improve the function and strength of the body's joints and muscles.
Chiropractic aims to find the root cause of the problem. Often this may be some distance away from the site of pain, and must be addressed with equal importance. We take a holistic view and recognise the importance of lifestyle, nutrition, and all-round wellbeing.
Chiropractic is suitable and effective for people of all ages: from babies to the elderly; from pregnant ladies to top athletes. Our techniques can be tailored to suit a wide range of individuals and conditions.
We are a registered profession, meaning every chiropractor in the UK has completed a chiropractic Masters degree, and are fully insured and registered with the General Chiropractic Council.
What’s the Chiropractic Treatment process?
First Visit - Consultation and Examination
This visit will last up to 60 minutes. During this appointment we will go through a thorough history of your health issues, history, and goals. Following this we will complete a full physical examination to get to the root of what is going on. If appropriate, we may start treatment.
Second Visit - Report of Findings
On this visit you will receive a full explanation of what we found, your diagnosis, how many sessions we would recommend and how we can treat your complaint.
If you wish to continue with care you will receive appropriate and individualised treatment. You will receive a information pack that is specific to you and your recovery.
Follow Up Visits
Treatment Sessions:
The number of visits required will vary from person to person and will depend on your diagnosis and recovery. During these visits you will be able to ask your chiropractor any questions you have and will involve a mix of techniques tailored to your condition.
Re-assessments:
Periodically, we will schedule a longer session to reassess your condition and discuss your progress. These sessions allow us to decide how well you are progressing, if we need to alter care to focus on other aspects such as exercise rehabilitation or change your recommended treatment schedule.
What can Chiropractors treat?

-
Evidence suggests that Chiropractic can help both long term (chronic) and short term (acute) back pain. This may be in the lumbar (lower), thoracic (mid) or cervicothoracic (upper) back, and can be caused by long-term habits, posture, short-term injuries, or a combination of all.
-
This simply means pain in the distribution of the sciatic nerve (down the back of the leg) and can have a number of causes. Often this may be related to the discs between the bones in the lower back, and your Chiropractor will assess to determine whether this is the case.
-
This may be the result of arthritic changes, sports injury, muscular/soft-tissue conditions, or postural imbalances. An examination of the movement and strength of the hip joints will likely be performed as part of your initial assessment.
-
One of the more common reasons for seeing a Chiropractor, this is more prevalent than ever in the age of the smart-phone and desk job. Treatment will likely focus on restoring full range of motion and improving the strength of the neck.
-
Migraines are usually felt as a severe, throbbing pain often felt at the sides or front of the head, usually just on one side. They may cause nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and noise alongside the pain, and can be accompanied by visual symptoms known as “aura”.
In some cases, what are believed to be migraines may in fact be cervicogenic or tension type headaches
-
These are a very common cause of headaches, and often feel like they spread from the base of the skull up and over the head and can be felt around the eyes. These headaches originate from the structures of the neck, including tight muscles and inflamed joints.
-
The shoulder is a complex structure with a multitude of possible diagnoses. A focused examination of the joint itself will be performed alongside a more general examination of bodily posture and movement, to identify other issues that may be contributing to the condition. Manual therapy is effective for many of these conditions.
-
This condition affects the muscles and tendons that move the wrist. Repetitive strain in these muscles causes irritation at the points where they originate near the elbow. There are many causes besides tennis and golf.
-
As with the shoulder, there are a multitude of possible diagnoses for knee pain. Once a diagnosis is reached, Chiropractic treatment would likely involve improving movement and strength, and changing the mechanical load going through the joint to allow for healing.
This is not an exhaustive list of reasons why people may choose to see a Chiropractor. If you are not sure whether your condition is suitable for Chiropractic care, you may wish to arrange a free 10 minute phone consultation to find out more, and discuss whether a full assessment is right for you.
