CHIROPRACTOR IN EAST DULWICH & PECKHAM

ED BEESLEY

Principal Chiropractor, MChiro DC

Ed is a graduate of the renowned Anglo-European College of Chiropractic in the UK. With over 10 years clinical experience, he practises in East Dulwich and Peckham Rye. In his own words:

“I was always interested in science and natural history, and became very interested in Chiropractic when I discovered it in my late teens following sports injuries.

Chiropractic is an inspiring, effective approach to health, that mostly uses adjustments to the joints of the spine to assist in healing, easing of symptoms, and improved functioning of the body. It is natural and non-invasive, and is suitable for people at all different stages of life.

In my own approach to Chiropractic care, I like to incorporate the latest evidence-based scientific thinking, while remaining true to the core elements of the discipline that make Chiropractic care unique.

Outside of my work as a Chiropractor, I enjoy running, football and cooking healthy and delicious meals. I have also been a keen musician from a young age, singing in choirs and playing in many orchestras and bands over the years. I’ve also dabbled in acting, most recently with The Dulwich Players.”

Ed is GCC and BCA registered, and is covered by most health insurance providers, including Aviva, AXA, BUPA, Vitality and WPA.

How Chiropractic works

Chiropractic is a hands-on approach to health that restores function and relieves pain by addressing issues in the joints, muscles, ligaments, and nerves. We look beyond the symptoms to find the root cause—often located away from the area of pain—and take a whole-body approach, including lifestyle and wellbeing.

Who is it for?

Chiropractic care is safe and effective for all ages, from newborns to the elderly, pregnant women to elite athletes. Our techniques will always be tailored to suit your individual needs and preferences, and where necessary we can use extremely gentle force to get great results.

I went to see Ed because I was dealing with some really acute neck pain and stiffness for several weeks (brought on my constantly leaning over my computer). His treatment has genuinely improved my quality of life, I can’t recommend him enough!

FAQs

  • The three professions practise in an increasingly similar way with a significant overlap in the conditions they can treat. Traditionally, Chiropractors focused on spinal manipulation - precise movements to specific spinal joints to bring back movement and relieve pressure on nerves and surrounding tissues. In modern practice, however, most Chiropractors incorporate a range of techniques alongside manipulation that have a lot in common with Osteopathic and Physiotherapy techniques. A typical visit with Ed Beesley will likely also include soft-tissue treatment and exercise and rehab advice. Ed has worked extensively alongside practitioners from all three professions, and aims to provide a treatment approach that offers the best of all three disciplines.

  • The full scope of conditions that be treated safely and effectively by an experienced Chiropractor is very broad: many conditions involving the joints, muscles and nerves are likely to be suitable for Chiropractic care. Primarily, Chiropractors are skilled in treated conditions of the spine, including sprains, strains, arthritic conditions, and disc/nerve conditions. This often includes pain in other areas, such as sciatic pain, headaches or shoulder pain. By improving the quality of movement and strength of the spine, pelvis and hips, Chiropractors can often improve other musculoskeletal conditions too, such as in the knees and elbows. Many Chiropractors also carry out adjustments of the extremities - such as the wrists. This means that Chiropratic can be an excellent choice for treating anything from lower back pain and neck pain, to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

  • Yes, we usually begin treatment on the first visit. We will first carry out a thorough consultation and examination to make sure that your condition is suitable for Chiropractic treatment and identify where we need to focus our treatment.

  • No, in the vast majority of cases we will be able to diagnose your condition and assess you through physical examination, without requiring X-Rays. While Chiropractors in the UK are qualified in taking and reading X-Ray images, it's only necessary to take X-Rays or MRI scans if there are significant red-flags that merit further investigation prior to treatment. In that case, we would refer you externally for images to be taken.

  • Yes - Chiropractic is suitable for everyone! Although the treatment may look different depending on your age and physical condition, the aim is still to improve movement, strength and function of the joints, nerves and muscles, and this can be achieved in many ways that can be suitable for anyone. Whether you’re very young, very old, or somewhere in between, we can always tailor our approach to suit your preferences.

  • Yes - Chiropractic can be extremely beneficial during pregnancy, and many pregnant patients have enjoyed a much more comfortable pregnancy with the help of our Chiropractor, Ed Beesley. There are many common issues that arise during pregnancy, including sacroiliac joint pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and muscle strain, which Chiropractic care can alleviate - and it is also recommended for post-partum recovery. At our location in Peckham, we are equiped with a pregnancy treatment pillow which makes it very comfortable to lie face-down during treatment - so we recommend booking at that location if possible.

  • Yes, we are registered with most major Health Insurers, including AXA, BUPA, Vitality, WPA, and many others. Ed is a GCC registered Chiropractor, also registered with the BCA and HKCC.

  • Absolutely - Chiropractic is focused on helping you to move more and do more without pain, so we will almost always encourage you to continue doing anything you enjoy. In the very early stages of injury, it is of course sometimes advisable to cut back and work within pain tolerance, but prolonged periods of rest are rarely helpful in the long-term.

  • East Dulwich location - there are a few options nearby for parking. On Lordship Lane, there are several spaces that allow 30 minutes free parking between 10am and 4pm. On some of the nearby residential roads such as Zenoria Street, there are a few spaces where you can pay for parking over the phone or in-App. Many of the spaces are residents only during the day, but free for anyone after 6:30PM.

Peckham location - you will be able to park on many of the residential streets by the clinic for free. Most of them have a period of 2 hours residents only parking, so be sure to check this and choose a street which doesn't prevent you parking at your appointment time
